| For someone who just wants an A+ and Network+ and maybe Cisco certs
is it necessary to study TCP/IP in depth? A course at my college uses
this big fat TCP/IP book for the entire semester. No hands-on in that class.
But it is a prerequisite.
How important is TCP/IP knowledge for PC techs, networking?
Perhaps sysadmins need to know it better than techs, but is it used
on the job or is this just useless fun knowledge like ASM and discrete
structures?
Are there many questions on it on the exam?

| For PC technicians minimal.
For Network technician very important.
For Network technicians working Cisco (or other router brands) extremely
important.
For taking Certifications the situation is a little bit different.
A+ You need to know the term TCP/IP and very basic use of it
Net+ Could be a little more about TCP/IP in that test. When I took mine a
couple of year ago I did not see much about it though. No questions at all
about Subnetting or Supernetting.
Cisco Certifications (most of them) is a LOT about TCP/IP
and you need to know everything poosible to learn.

You can't be a tech without understanding TCP/IP.
