| Hello all
Does anyone have advice for someone who has the job he wants (thank
goodness), but wants to learn more, due to our network slowly expanding.
I have read Sybex's network + and I may write the exam (just for my own
satisfaction), but I would like to learn more detail about networking ( i.e.
tcp/ip, hardware, etc). Should I just keep reading textbooks, or is there
seminars I can take. Any advice for someone who is in the same boat as me
would be greatly appreciated.
TIA
JoelN

There are many great networking books on the market but you should also
consider creating and configuring a lab with LAN and WAN technologies to get
the hands-on experience also.

| I'm in that boat, already have a great job that pays pretty good and is
secure. I would get as much training as you can. What's really good is if
you can get your employer to pay for training at authorized centers, I pay
for the exams. All my Comptia exams were selfstudy. Microsoft and Novell
were at training centers. One of my first instructors in college was the
head IT manager for a defense contractor, he put it simple.."If you don't
stay in a continuous mode of learning, your absolute in this field real
quick."

| Thanks Slammer,
I agree with your last statement and thats what I am looking for, but I
really would like seminar type training (ie go to a course for 2-3 days to
brush up on a topic and then I can probably learn the rest.)

| Most of the authorized training classes are only 5 days long and provide you
hands on training in a lab environment.
