Hi folks,

I got a little problem maybe someone can help me with. I have 2 computers
connected via a hub. The one upstairs is running Win 2k, the one downstairs
is running Win 98. Now for some reason they can only see each other every
once in a while. What I mean is - sometimes when I boot them up they will
see each other and sometimes not. I can always access the internet on both
machines even when they wont see each other. Every once in a while I will
add another computer to the network and all 3 will function good. And then
there are other times that doing that wont work either. I cant find anything
that is wrong with the setup. Its pretty basic. I havent made any changes.
Maybe one or both of the NIC cards are fryed? Cable?
Anybody with any suggestions?

--
Thanks in advance

LD

Are you using DHCP, or assigning IP addresses yourself?
Is File and Print Sharing enabled?
Are they all in the same Work Group?

These are the things I'd check first.

What is your default gateway; that is, how are your computers accessing the
internet?

How far apart are the PC's? Where is the cabling run? Is it getting walked
on? Is it run where there is a good liklihood of picking up electrical
interefernece? If they can see each other even once... it leads me to the
hardware. As for your NICS, do they ping ok? (ping 127.0.0.1)

You may try booting into safe mode and ensuring that there are protocols not
installed multiple times. I actually encoutnered this problem once.
