I hope this post won't be too off topic. I've begun (again) studying for my
Net+ and have been lurking here.

Since I respect the knowledge of the people in this group I'd like your
opinions on a networking project I am working on. What I'm looking for is
ideas on the best way to add a new segment to our network. I also don't want
to overlook the obvious.

The details of what we have now: We have two buildings in close geographical
proximity to each other. There is a partial T-1 line coming in. that feeds
into what become two entirely separate Ethernet networks , once inside the
firewall. The set up is pretty basic. It is all 10/100 MB switched with only
one router at the entry point.

The details of what we need to do: We have recently been told that we will
need to connect another building into our current LAN. This building is
about 10 miles away. The "knowns" are that the building will be getting its
own partial T-1 line. There will be a Cisco router in the new location's MDF
and one in the original building. Our telecom provider plans to use frame
relay as a means of communication between the routers. Both networks
(internal IP's) must be accessable from the new location. We currently have
one VLAN capable 10/100 switch for the new location. There will be a maximum
of 50 nodes at the new location.

There you have it. The big question is, what is the most efficient way to do
this. We have thought of everything from VLAN methods to you name it but I'm
sure some of the members of this group have done this before and I'd like to
know what is likely to work best.

Thanks

SGF
