Anyone seen any subnet mask problems on exam?

| I've read several books preparing for the exam. However, in the practice
exams I've taken I have seen no questions on subnetting and Ip
addressing hosts. Has anyone run accross questions like these on the
exam? Reason being I don't wanna overload the brain w/ info useless to
the exam at this point.

I understand your wanting to be ready for this exam, but...is there
really any such thing as useless information? If it's information, it
isn't useless. You are better off being over-prepared, I think.

| The most important thing to remember about subletting is the class of the IP
addresses and how a subnet is determined by the network portion of the IP
address using a Boolean operation (AND), the process is sometimes called
'ANDing'.
In otherwords, if you understand the 4 IP classes used for IP addressing and
how the NOS uses 255 (or 11111111) to filter out the network portion, then
you should be okay.

| True Tom, all information is useful at some point and time. But I think in
this case it might be more a matter of "wasted brain cells"?

| Do they go into custom subnetting or just knowing that the "255.255.255.0"
is for a class c ip and what not.
Because i've got down all the classes, how to tell what class an ip is, how
to read it in binary, what it's default sub net is.
I'm getting lost with the custom subnets. I just got the "learntosubnet.com"
thing going on so we'll see if that helps.

| The kinds of practice questions I've seen regarding subnetting will ask
something like - what is the subnet address for the following IP address?
192.168.40.3/24 (and of course know that the /24 means 3 octects, a standard
Class C subnet with a 255.255.255.0 subnet.)
Personally, I did not get anything more in-depth than that on the test, BUT,
remember, each test is different, and if it's in the "approved" study
materials, it's fair game for the test.
Good luck!
