Attention Newsgroup Members:

If you are tired of this imposter/impersonator who has been polluting this
newsgroup with his fraud and obsceneties, take action! Join us in putting an
end to his activites in here!

His ISP can be reached at techadvice@uk.tiscali.com and
hostmaster@uk.tiscali.com . At the very end of this message I have attached
a sample email if you would like to cut and paste to report him to his ISP.

Write to them and be sure to include the full header information of the post
that you found obscene, offensive, distracting, or fraudulent. Below is an
example of how he forges the ID and email of another member in order to
avoid being killfiled. Notice the "X-Trace: " field that shows where he is
posting from.

Dear Sirs,

I am writing to register a formal complaint concerning one of your
subscribers who is in continual violation of your Acceptable Use Policies.

I am enclosing at the end of this email some recent postings by this
subscriber with full header information as proof of these charges. This user
persists in forging posts, even changing the name and email address whenever
other users change theirs to retain their individuality. This is persistent,
annoying, vulgar, and in direct violation of your Acceptable Use Policy. I
have copied the sections of your policy that this user is in violation of
and have commented on how each sub-section has been violated.

Please be assured that this continued abuse will not be ignored or
overlooked and it has gained the attention of the majority of the members of
the forum. Please act in the benefit of the greater good and enforce your
policies!

If Tiscali persists in refusing to stop the abuses by it's subscriber,
myself and others will begin publicizing these factual events, along with
Tiscali's lack of response, to many online forums and webpages. I am sure
that this kind of negative publicity is not something that your company
wishes to garner for itself, so I suggest that the appropriate actions be
taken promptly.

Sincerely,

<your name here>

*******Tiscali's AUP and detailed violations of this policy*************

From http://www.tiscali.co.uk/aboutus/aup.html
5. Chat, Newsgroups and Forums
When using chat, newsgroups and forums (including Tiscali ones):
a. You must not: i. send messages that cause distress, anxiety or harm to
another person or constitute a criminal offence

>> Repeated off-topic posts and obscene remarks about deviant sexual

activities have been posted.

ii. send messages that contain abusive, offensive or illegal content

>> Foul language, offensive sexual remarks and general unwarranted verbal

abuse have all been posted.

iii. send messages that are inappropriate to the room topic

>> The topic of the forum is Microsoft certification, yet continually,

personal attacks and off-topic messages have been posted.

vi. attempt to conceal your identity or impersonate any individual or
organisation

>> This is perhaps the BIGGEST offense by this user. This user has NEVER

posted using his/her own identity, but has only posted by forging the
identites of other users. Additionally, the content of the posts have been
worded so as to fully impersonate others, including, but not limited to, the
discussion of disgusting sexual practices and offensive, obscene language.

viii. make an identical posting to more than two forums (multi-posting)

>> This user has repeatedly multi-posted to a number of different forums in

an attempt to publicize his impersonations and fraud.

d. General Newsgroup and Forum Guidelines:
i. Do not hijack a thread by repeatedly adding postings designed to draw the
readers' attention to separate forum, thread, site or issue

>> On a number of occasions, this user has added postings to existing

threads that were an attempt to draw the reader to another one of his/her
impersonations, or to draw the reader's attention to another obscene insult.

ii. Do not post unsolicited bulk postings or 'spam'

>> This user has repeatedly posted the same content message with exact

wording to over a dozen different threads. These postings were unsolicited,
in bulk, and considered 'spam' by most standards.

9. AUP Enforcement
Tiscali reserve the right to suspend or terminate an account that has not
adhered to the guidelines set out in this policy or to the Terms and
Conditions. In some cases, accounts may be suspended or terminated without
prior warning.

>> As of yet, Tiscali has done nothing to stop the improper use by it's

subscriber!

I am with you on this one. I will join your fight. I have already been
sending emails to abuse@uk.tiscali.com and have gotten no response. I

Hopefully others will join us in stopping this abuse.

If anybody is serious about certification and the use of this newsgroup,
you need to stop this guy from flooding the newsgroup with garbage.

You cannot killfile this individual when he is using our identities or the
owners of those idents will be kill filed as well.

For those of you in the other NG's, you must be very tired of this and I
appologize on the behalf of all of us who have been targeted. You are all
here for the same reason the rest of us are... either to study for your
certifications, or you have finished your certs and still have the desire to
learn more and to assist others in their studies. Kudos to you all. Each
and every one of us has a job to do... whether it is studying for certs,
taking classes, teaching others, operating a network, fixing PC's,
monitoring/maintaining routers, or any combination thereof.

Again I appologize to those of you who have been frustrated with this
imposters games. Hopefully, it will all be over soon.

Rest assured that this will end!!! His ISP will HAVE to reply to this
continued activity.

Cheers and good luck in whatever your journey may be

Hugh,

The problem with a Kill File is that the spammer copies the nic and email of
other users, so that you end up kill filing people who are innocent of the
abuses. Even when people try to slightly change their personal information
to stay alive in the newsgroup, the spammer changes his to match.

In fact, I am pretty sure that he will start posting as "Moderator"
<reply@tothe.group> in order to get even with me!

The only solution to this is to stop him at the source and have him shut off
by his ISP.

I used the name "moderator" to get people's attention. It is just a name
like any other.

You can't killfile this guy! I've tried, but he keeps coming back with
another name and e-mail address. He is a very persistent troll.

I did not vote in favor of the moderator nomination. :-)

A moderated forum wouldn't have a problem with spam. It's moderated. If you
are the moderator... then moderate.

Sue dear I feel so sorry for you if you check the headers for the last post
to this message you will find that you just responded to either the spammer
or someone who uses the same ISP as the spammer. Now the IP block which you
have just highlighted includes thousands of IP addresses. Using your logic
everyone posting via news01.bloor.is.net.cable.rogers.com...is really Sue
..O'Brien I dont think so

That's how well we know this moron... the minute anyone says anything
against this "individual", he impersonates them... this "gentleman" takes
some perverse thrill out of playing different people... male or female
alike. If you ask me... it is very odd.

Actually, you can. I got a copy of the latest beta copy of Hamster
(http://www.tglsoft.de/) and setup a rule like this:

?-9999 NNTP-Posting-Host: ".access.uk.tiscali.com"

I see no more postings by this individual. He can masquerade as
whoever he wants and I don't see squat from him any more.

What is funny is that since he just started spamming our group
recently, we were not aware of this impersonation pattern except in
relation to Tom. I thought that all of these other "people" were all
made up by him, and he was having fake arguments between a series of
alter-egos, much like a little girl might play barbie and ken and make
them talk to each other. lol. I didn't realize until just now that
there was a real Sue and Dan and Tony, etc.

Yeah we are real... he brought you into his little game... though I am not
sure I know why... it is not like we talk normally in your ng... why he
cross posted is beyond me. As frustrating as it is for us, you all must be
really sick and tired of us over here!!

Maybe we are tired of the fake "sad sue obrien" or the "limp wristed
tony orlando" etc., but we are not tired of the real people like
yourself. If you want to learn a little more about networking (not
necessarily just Cisco), pop over and join in for a bit. You guys
(i.e. the mature ones) are certainly welcome any time you like.

Don't laugh but I already have my CCNA and plan to start my CCNP studies in
the fall. My concentration right now is MCSE/MCSA and to go from there. In
total I have CNA, CCNA, A+, MCP (x6) soon to be MCSE/MCSA.

I just subscribed to the cisco one

If only he had used his power for good instead of evil...oh, man, I
have to cut down on watching the new TV dish. Those old "Get Smart!"
