| I am wanting to make my windows 2000 machine a web server for a small site,
but I am not sure how to do it I have tried to search fro software that does
it but I carnet get them to work.
I have an BTO connection working through an Asus ev6000 router which is
always on with a permanent ip and then I have a few pc on the network. i can
share the pages with the pcs on my side of the router but cant access them
from the out side. Can you ping a pc on a network from the other side of the
router?

You'll need to configure static IP and port translations on the outside to
the inside of your router.

Never heard of that brand or model. Have you checked their web site for
deployment scenarios or technical support?

|
| Would you change something in the routing table?

Nothing needs to change in the routing table.

Static NAT is required from the outside to inside.

A Network+ technician usually will not have the skills required hence it
wouldn't show the details in a N+ study guide.

| Windows 2000 Professional or Server? IIS can be added to a W2k Pro
machine, (Control Panel, Add/remove programs/Add-Remove Windows
COmponents). If you do this, make sure you rerun the Service Pack 2
update or else your open to Code Red and Nimda.
I think the IIS that comes with Win2k Pro is limited as to how many
people can hit your site at once. WIn2k Server can have 100s of
thousands of hits (If your bandwidth and hardware can handle it
It is also posible to run Apache Web Server on Win2k, not limited like
IIS on Professional and (insert anti-microsoft security diatribe here)
it isn't as prone to hack or virui.
