Author Just plain odd to me.

I was servicing a comp in a Win NT 3.51 domain with Win NT 4 clients.
Reading through the event log I noticed that this workstation had been
involved in an election to promote its self as a PDC. Isn't that something
only a server would do? It wasn't the issue I was there to resolve, however
I just find it odd.

The election process is for master browser and not domain controller. The
election process is based on the OS version and until all servers and
workstations are configured correctly, you will have these messages in your
event logs.

Thanks Andy,

I could have sworn event viewer had mentioned PDC. I do not have the exact
message as this is a remote site. This is a new agency for us to service
that we have picked up due to their Admin retiring. And where are these
configuration settings determined, group policies? I am naive when it comes
to admining NT, I am just lowly desktop support, though learning all the
time.
