Author How long to study from scratch???

Hi,

Here's my situation. I work for a company who wants all of their
field service techs to get Net + certified, even though we have
nothing to do with networks. We had to get A+ certs about 2 years ago
and I used the Mike Meyers book to study for it. I picked up the Mike
Meyers book for Net plus since the A+ book was so good. So my
question is how long do you think it would take to study for the test
keeping in mind that job has nothing to do with PC's or networks. I
have no experience at all and will learn everything from scratch.

Thanks,

Al

Two to three months, 2-3 hours per night. Use Transcender to test yourself
approximately 3 weeks before the actual exam.
If you A+ and experience, the Network+ should not be that difficult.

If already A+, then about 2 months should be more than sufficient, the
pass score is very low, around 50% (1100(est max) - 100(start score) =
500/1000)

Hey,

The Net+ exam is marked 100-900 with a passing score of 646 making the
passing score somewhere in the neighborhood of 72%.

I suggest studying as long as you see fit ... make sure you can answer
questions based on the CompTia guidelines on their site. I know some people
who studied no more than 2 weeks and passed and then have seen others need
months of studying to scrape by.

I'm not sure, if you have "NO experience at all", if you can easily do
this without some actual hands-on in addition to the book. The book can
be covered in 2-6 weeks, depending on how you do it.

Hey Al

With no previous networking experience I passed the exam after 2 1/2 weeks
using Mikes Net+ book and the Learnkey CBTs. I would equate that to about
80 hours study. I think the CBTs were great, but could be dispensed with if
you could get hands on experience somewhere.

Hey Tom,

Not a quibble per se ... this is off the Comptia Net+ FAQ and what was on my
test last week.

What is the minimum score required to pass the Network+ exam?
The Network+ exam is graded on a scale of 100 - 900. 646 is the minimum
passing score.

Right, and 100 is the bottom and 900 the top, so the passing
percentage is (646-100)/(900-100)...unless my brain is still letting
me down here. Rough year... :-)
