Hello Kathy,

I used Mike's All-In-One Net+ book. A good book but you should maybe play
around with networking a few pc's at the same time. Because the net+ exam is
an all around exam it might be hard to gets hands on experience in all the
fields but it would defiantly be wise to get a win2k or win9x network
together.

Thanks Russ and Pat :-) I wasn't sure exactly what to get, but seeing it's
by Mike Meyers, then this is what I will get as for reading.

Pat, this is what I need to do, is get hands on experience, besides reading
the book. Don't know how I am going to do it yet (get the hands on), but I
will find a way.

Actually you can learn alot of what the book teaches but just having 2 pc's
with a crossover cable. The experience is invaluable, I defiantly recommend
it. Maybe there is some place around where you live that will let you
volunteer and you can watch and see how it's done.

Mike Meyers, Net+ for Freaks! and plenty of hands on -- not to mention asking as many questions here as you can

Thanks :-) Actually the place where I want to apply for a job does
networking as well and maybe they would let me watch if I ask. Who knows,
but volunteer work on the side sounds good too.

Take Care,
Kathy

build a lab for hands-on. if you have room. all you will need will be two
2nd user systems, network cards and crossover cable. the minimum spec of the
2nd user units is dictated by your o/s. i would suggest atleast p200s.

i think n+ only covers up to win2k, so i would suggest you get your hands on
ewither nt or win2k and have both computers dualbooting win9x and win2k if
you can. if serials allow. make sure you get discs with your nics or it will
XXXX you off. i got some isa cards via ebay and i had problems with irqs and
stuff. even my pci cards were tricky, but the ones i got discs for are
great.

nt, win2k and xp pro are similar, so any of those should do, but you will
also need a win9x system.

I have two systems running Win98, well actually three systems, but one
computer is six years old! I was thinking of doing this. It could work,
thanks :-)
