Hello,

I currently hold the following certifications:

MCSA, Server+, Network+, A+ .... and am awaiting the results of Security+
Beta.

My question is... would it be worth it, career wise to get an MCSE?

I was leaning towards getting a CCDA/CCDP, to cover my design
certification(s) (Which is all that the MCSA is missing from the MCSE)

What are your opinions on this?
thanks....

CCDA and CCDP are a totally different track from MCSA and MCSE. You
need to decide if you want to pursue system managment or
infrastructure management. For the systems side (servers and
workstations), Microsoft is the way to go. If you plan on supporting
network infrastructure (switches and routers) then the Cisco certs are
what you want.

Unfortunately, the tests for one don't count toward the other.

Good luck with your decision.

Hey Ivan

I can't answer that except to say it depends on the track you wish to
follow.
A question for you though - I am having the Security+ tapes from Learnkey
brought into the country by my training establishment - how did you feel you
went with the Sec+ exam?

I took the security+ the first day it was available, with no study....
having said that, I felt it was HARD.. the hardest exam Ive taken so far.
125 Q's, some arcane topics of crypto covered and re-covered...

It wasn't what I was expecting that's for sure...
A+ and Network+ eq. knowledge??
HAHAHAHAH comptia.... hahaha....

I dont think I passed. Though I might... but I wont know for at least a
while...

anyway, just took it for the hell of it, had the $90 and who knows, I
might've passed

good luck to you....
it isnt easy, STUDY crypto

Thanks... I'm thinking about this, since I'm not going for certs just for
getting them... I want to have a certain direction to be headed for.

As of now, I've covered my job functions with my certs, except the design
part. So, you think the MCSE would most effectively showcase network design
skill?

Or would the CCDA/CCNP track prove sufficient in that regard? MCSA + CCNP
would be comparable to MCSE, better , or worse? (For my purposes, career
wise.. i.e. showcasing network design and administration skill)

thanks....

Where did you hear someone say that it was?

On Comptia's site, where they posted the security+ beta, they said that
people with A+ and Network+ or equivalent knowledge are ideal candidates to
take the exam...

SUUUUUUUREEEEEEEE.....
its NOTHING like A+ or Network+

I enjoyed the challenge though.

This is what it says...

"It is recommended that the Security+ test candidate have the
knowledge and skills equivalent of those tested for in the CompTIA A+
and Network+ certification exams.

See the Security+ exam objectives for more specific information about
the CompTIA Security+ exam content."

I agree that this may be misleading, as the words "at least" and "and
more" should have been included in the first paragraph, but anyone who
followed up on the next paragraph and was familiar with the A+ and
Network+ would/should know that there was more involved.

Who knows...maybe you passed. :-)
