| I am just about to buy a switch for my CCNP studies , what would
people of this group recommend to buy.. Can't decide between 2924 or
2950.. So any input would be of great help. I am only going to use
this in my home lab.. thanks in advance..

Depends on whether you want an "Intelligent Switch" or not.
The 2950 allows some layer 3/4 functions, like QoS. If you can spare the
cash, the 2950 certainly allows you to perform some functions that the
2924 cannot.

| Are CatOS based switches still on the Switching Exam?

| From my 642-811 BCMSN Exam Certification Guide:
"NOTE The Catalyst OS is mentioned here only for comparison. It is not covered
in detail in the BCMSN 2.0 course; therefore, it is not covered in this text."
So I doubt that there is much if anything in the exam.

Are you absolutely sure CatOS is still covered?
In the most recent Cisco Press CCNP BCMSN Exam (642-811) Cert
Guide it says, "Although Cisco offers a wide range of LAN
switching products, several different operating systems and
user interfaces are supported on different switch models. For
the purposes of this book and the CCNP BCMSN exam, you should
only be concerned with switches that run the Cisco IOS
Software."

| The CatOS is dead. My professor (i asked him if I could get a hold of a
5000 for testing) said they are leaning heavily towards the IOS switches
like the 3550. I purchased the 640-801 flash cards and found they weren't
using the CatOS either....instead of the 1900 the examples were focused on
the 2950.
Just my two cents.
