Author Pre-Certification Questions.

Hello,

I must apologize in advance if this has been answered
already. A few years ago my college professor told the class a
few things about Cisco Certification that seem after bit of
research to be totally incorrect. First we where told that
the Certification would cost us around $5000. Perhaps the
prices have changed? I see now that this is not case. Also
he stated that the final test would be 3 days long where the
first day they put you in a room with some computers, tell
you there's a problem and fix it. Then the rest is written/
multiple choice. I'm not too sure on this one. Finally we
where told that we would be guaranteed $100,000 a year.

So was he an idiot? Sounds to me this is the case. Maybe
this has all changed. I'd like to think he knew what he
was talking about, but I am seriously doubting now.

Thanks for your time,
Michael

Nah... only a bootcamp (or a nice home lab) will cost you that much..
but the individual tests (CCNA/CCNP) are $125 USD/ea. A CCNA, even with
the purchase of GOOD 2nd hand lab gear would cost $1000-$1500.

Sounds like he's refering to the CCIE: http://www.cisco.com/go/ccie ...
although his views of the past are quite skewed. In current reality,
the CCIE is now two parts:
1.) A 'written' pre-quailifaction examination - 2 hours/100 questions
for $300.00 US
http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/62...itten_exam.html

2.) A one-day lab examiniation - $1250 USD. there used to be a 'break
it & fix it component' to the exam, but I believe that is gone. Now
it's more about a "build it correctly" scenario.

As for the $100,000 - I know I'd like to believe it's still out there
for the CCIE with the right experience (my written CCIE is scheduled for
June), but looks on Monster & Dice have slightly dashed those hopes.

Maybe not an idiot, but cetainly skewed facts. Follow the links on
Cisco's website... judge your skills vs. the exam requirements and
figure out where you need to go.

Best of luck,
Ben
