I have finished 4 of the 6 required exams to pass the CCSP. My next test is
on the IDS. Problem is, I have never touched one. My understanding is that
Cisco Secure IDS software runs on top of Solaris. What is the possibility of
installing Solaris on an Intel box and running Cisco Secure on top of it for
lab purposes? Has anyone done this before? If so, please send me some info.

Thanks,
John

Cisco IDS Appliance is running on RedHat. But you will never find a
"package". Some time ago, when they just released IDS 4.0, you were able to
install it on any PC with 2 NIC cards (actually, not on the "any", but I had
it running on P3/450/256 with 2 Intel NIC). Installation complained about
"not-supported platform", but allowed you to run. But now it seems like they
"fixed" this "bug" and it does require Cisco platform (BIOS + Hardware). If
you can find release 4.0, you may try to install it on spare PC.

Congrats,, I have worked on Cisco IDS 4235 and Real Secure IIS but
even after implementing the same, the vendors or the service provider
whom we have bought are skilless as who ever learns this knowledge
leaves the organization as how I have already submitted my
resignation...ha ha ha..the reason for leaving is the implementation
has already been done and no work now...

Best method is if you are comfortable with Unix or Windows Flavour,
whichever platform it sits no problem as you have to work on the IDS
and not on the OS.
y Prefeence would be for Labs should be Windows as it is faster,
easier and simpler and no overheads are required. Whereas in Solaris
the installtion will take u ages...

Choice is yours...and in return could you please let me know what all
study material did you prepare for CCSP, could you let me know some
few sites as i am very bad at theory and good at practicals.

Thanks & Regds
