Jippieh! 640-607 passed
|

| Hi folks,
just wanted to post that I passed my CCNA (640-607) - jippieyaeh! I
recognize a CCNA passer is no big deal to the most of you here, but now
I am _really_ motivated to continue on the track to CCNP and, possibly
in some future, to CCIE...
I thought long about mentioning the following since I do not want to
show off or any of the like:
I studied hard not hardly, practiced a lot and tried to understand every
element of the concepts involved. Needless to mention I do _not_ condone
(nor practice - seriously!) _any_ kind of cheating.
I passed with a score of 1000 out of 1000.
It was some luck too, since I had to guess the timer-values of CDP and
the appropriate command to set them. And in two cases (of oviously wrong
declaration of given IP-addresses in the graphic) I had to guess where
the error is.
I.e. 172.16.34.255/22 is _not_ a subnet-broadcast address, but I checked
the box saying "the router-interface <with the aforementioned address>
is not a valid host address rather it's a subnet-broadcast" and I
obviously guessed correctly. It should obviously have been stated as
"172.16.35.255/22" in the graphic, or am I just making a complete fool
of myself just now?!?
The other "guessing" was a MCSA-question with ambiguous answers: "usable
host address in third usable subnet of <some net/some mask>, assuming
'no subnet zero' is set", where actually _two_ applicable IP addresses
were listed. I just ticked the lower one...
I practiced subnetting so much I can calculate them in my head with one
hand chopped off , but I did convert IP & SM to bin in these cases and
wrote it all down so I am pretty sure these were bugs in the test.
<rant>
Initially I expected to be taking a test which is so old it's actually
expired - was able to take it though as Networking Academy student,
since we used version 2.1.4 - and therefore expected to be exhausively
debugged by this time. I think I was wrong.
</rant>
<survey>
how many of you guys/gals regularly pass with 1000/1000? Can I be proud
of myself ? Right now I guess I am...
</survey>
greets, Bernd

Congrats. It sounds like you did it the right way instead of using
braindumps.

172.16.35.255 is the correct subnet broadcast address.

I have to say that I've never gotten a perfect score on any certification,
and I've lost track how many and for what manufacturers I've been certified.
But don't get too full of yourself. It's just a piece of paper. It might
show that you have a fair amount determination, but that's all. I've spent a
long time working on networks, Cisco was no big deal when I started (how old
is Cisco now? thinking back I'm not sure it was around when I started), and
what it comes down to is how good you are in the field. Calculating subnets
in your head won't help much in the field.
But, again I'll give you credit for the 100%. Put that kind of effort into
your field work and you'll do well. Just remember that guy your working with
may have just barely passed and still knows more then you may ever learn.
Good luck

That all depends on what you do in the field. I engineer networks quite often and believe me, the ability to subnet in your head is an great asset.

Congrats on your pass Bernd. If you are not currently working in the network field, try to find a job where you are actually using your certification, otherwise, it really is just a "piece of paper". In this day in age, no one really will care if you have a CCNA, CCNP, etc, without the experience to back it up. | |

How is that? I'd appreciate your explanation.
I thought that broadcast address had all ones at the host portion of IP
address.
So, according to me, for 172.16.34.255/22 would be:
subnet address: 172.16.32.0
subnet broadcast address: 172.16.35.255
Where did I go wrong ?
Thanks in advance
Best regards
Robert

Everything is clear and correct (172.16.35.255 is of course the correct
subnet broadcast address), I should read posts more carefully.
My mistake, sorry.
Best regards
Robert
