| Which way to go? Can afford a few routers, yet no switch. RouterSim looks
pretty good, about the price of a couple of (ebay) routers, yet with
switches as well , is it worth the $200, or should I hold off and save for a
2900 switch?
Thanks

The only problem with Ebay Cisco routers is that ths IOS
license doesn't change hands and you have to get a new IOS license to
run it. According to one person I discussed this with that by the
time you purchase the license, it is a wash. You might as well have
bought a new router.
Keep that in mind.

| You don't have to buy a license to use the router. It's like buying an old laptop, do you go and buy Windows 95 again? | |

I thought IOS was non-transferable.

No, you don't *have* to, but it's illegal not to.

| I have used both sims and the real thing. There is no substitute for the
real thing. The sims can be buggy and can not emulate everything
especially if you want to test how the routers talk to each
other. IMHO even one router is better than any sim. The one sim that I
really do like is Cisco's eSIM that I used during my last few exams. It
was good enough that I forgot I was on a sim.
If you are just training then who cares if its the most current IOS. Its
also a good opertunity to see how buggy the IOS can be.

I was sure that was OK so long as you didn't leave the plastic
lying around for children and other small mammals to climb into...

| The buyer can remove the tag.
Anyway, I have been using Boson Netsim and it works well.
