1) If you planning to purchase used Cisco routers i would recommend, bying a
couple of 2503 routers, they include 1 ethernet, 2 Serials and a ISDN Bri
interface.
You shoud avoid cisco 700, 1000, and 3000 routers. the 700 dosnīt use the
normal Cisco IOS, and the 1000 and 3000 are to old. You should also avoid
CiscoPro Access soulution routers, they include a very limited IOS
2) You shuld go for a 2900 swicth without doubt, the 1900 is not a IOS
switch, it uses a menu based confguration, onlys used in these switches
3) Fore basic CCNA studies a IOS version 11.2 or 11.3 is okay.
4) This depends on the IOS version used and the features of it. The 2500 has
to flash slots, and one standard 72 pins ram slot. if you using version 11
IOS 8Mb flash and memory is suficient in most cases(on 2500 routers).
Good luck

2501s are fine; however, make sure that you get 16MB of RAM *AND* flash in
them, which is key in running the newest IOS versions. Also, make sure that
they have at least IOS 12.0 on them.

I would buy two switches--a 1900 and a 2950. You want to be able to do some
STP stuff, so you'll need two switches with two-or-more connections between
them; however, I would focus on the commands for the 2950 since the 1900 is
EOL.

No; get 12.0 or later; especially if you're thinking about pursing the CCNP.

See above

You could get my book :-)...however, Wendell's and Lammle's books are good
too--it's just a matter of the reading style your're interested in.

I've purchased many Cisco devices from eBay--just as a word of warning, make
sure you look at both the shipping costs for the purchase, the return
policy, and the rating of the individual making the sale.

Not a problem...good luck with your CCNA pursuit!
