how many points for simulation labs
|
|
|
| hi guys,
I failed CCNA 640-670 last week. Couldnt complete in time. Got
60 questions with 2 simulation labs till 50th question. How many simulation
questions does the test have actually and does it have more points than the
multiple choice ones. Taking the test this thursday again, should pass this
time.

| I have heard there are almost always 2 simulations and no more and they can
come at any time.
Things to check for are:
RIP - check to see if all available networks are being advertised.
Serial - check for clocking on DCE
Legal IP address - check for interface IPs that are illegal (that are
network or broadcast addresses)
Make sure interfaces have no shutdown.
The simulation questions are weighted more than a single question, but you
can fail one and still pass. (as I did)
Always finish your simulation with "copy run start" (whether you solved the
problem or not)
Check your time , for I ran out of time also, and barely passed.

This is true for the 607, however, I and other people have seen different
numbers for the 801: 2-5 (5!, can you believe the poor sucker that got that
test!)

True; based on most questions, they'll want you to get connectivity up and
running; therefore, you should be able to ping the other routers in the
group.
Correct, some of the 801

Cisco has never stated, and probably never will, tell you how the grading is
broken down on these sim questions.
Sometimes Cisco doesn't state clearly what they want. However, you can
usually guess. For example, they might say there is a problem with this
network where layer-3 connectivity is broken: fix it! In this example, there
might be disabled interfaces, misconfigured IP addressing, and misconfigured
routing protocols. Adding an enable or line password doesn't fix this, so I
would guess that configuring something like this might, at least slightly,
count against you. Since no one knows how this stuff is graded, I'd only
configure the stuff necessary to meet the objectives in the question.

| Tom,
How did you know you missed one of the sims?
I asked because I don't know if I got mine right or wrong
and knowing would help a lot.

| Richard,
Any DDR and/or ISDN on the 801? My ongoing question is whether the 0s
and 1s subnets count in the
"number of subnets with a class X network" question. But this at could
also be an issue in sims, depending on
the objective.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Lars

| Spam me no more,
Address translation, as well as DDR (legacy and profiles) with ISDN are fair game on the exam. Cisco's ICND course covers this, so be prepared!
One of the problems with Cisco's objectives is that they are very "broad" and non-specific. This gives them a lot of flexibility of putting stuff on the test without people complaining. It also allows them to easily adapt the test to include additional things or removing things they think are unnecessary.
As to simulation questions with this DDR/ISDN/NAT, I've never heard of anyone receiving a sim question on these, but you never know!
I know this is a canned response, but you should know all of these things in order to ensure that you have the best possible chance in passing the exam in one try.
Cheers!
