Copying cisco books
|
|
|
| Does anyone know a contact at Cisco that handles people making copies of
their books illegally? This guy Marc Murray is selling illegally copied
material. I did a google groups search on him and he seems to be held in
low regard. Here is the ebay listing. Since he sold the book so many times
its obvious he's not selling his own personal copy.

| I know because he's sold at least a half dozen copies. How many people are
given that many copies when they go to a class? I care because I have a
problem with people stealing and trying to make money off of it. If you see
someone trying to steal your neighbors car do you just ignore it because
it's not your car and you don't care? Thats not a very good attitude. Some
day that some guy might come to steal from you. As network engineers and
especially security engineers we should have some sense of integrity.

| I just noticed something interesting. Both you and Marc are from Dallas.
How coincidental. Perhaps not. You are Marc using an alias I bet.

I dont have a legitimate one to look at but looking at the ebay picture,
the front of the book is a sheet of paper stuck under the vinyl.
Have you contacted Cisco?

| Hold on there, cowboy. You have absolutely no proof this guy is selling
photocopies. Did you e-mail him and ask if the items are original and
genuine? Maybe he purchased extra kits from a training center or
instructor. Maybe some students canceled their reservations at the last
minute. Who knows? Certainly not you. I'd think twice before going off
half-cocked and making false accusations. Someone might slap you with a
slander or defamation lawsuit.

| That's what I'm trying to find out. Who is the appropriate contact? Based
on this guy's track record I'm sure they're copies. Every class I've ever
gone to I was given a color cover and a spiral bound book. I've never been
given a 3-ring binder. Most people prefer not to destroy their original
manual just to make copies. It's a slight deterrent.

I'm sure the "contacts and feedback" link at the top of cisco would
work. I don't think it's worth the effort though. Buyer beware....

| You can start with your Cisco sales rep. If you don't have one, call their
sales line and ask for one. You should get a call pretty quick and I'm sure
they'd be able to find out where to report it.
