| well I did the 640-607 exam today and I would recommend people
attempting any cert to call up the testing center BEFOREHAND and ask
them what writing materials are provided! (in addition to PC specs.,
etc..)
The reason being the site where I took it in London - the official
Prometric test site - in Oxford Circus supplied me with a pvc laminate
board about 20cm long by 15cm wide with a 0.5cm nib marker pen!
Terrible! I had to ask the supervisor to wipe the board for me and in
the end the whole process took about 1.5 minutes. May not seem like
long - but that's time for 1 question and could determine a pass or
fail. I had to resort to wiping the board with my fingers which
resulted in smudges and ended up writing on top of the smudges as I
didn't want to waste time again getting it cleaned. I was really
pi**ed as I had to do most subnetting steps and even
addition/subtraction in my head as I didn't wan't to 'waste'
whiteboard space. Normally if I could write it down, it would take 10
secs. Doing the basic steps mentally dragged it onto 50 secs not to
mention the extra pressure not to stuff up doing math mentally.
Multiply 40 seconds by 7ish subnetting questions and you get 5 mins
wasted since this prometric branch was tight a**. Everything else was
excellent though (staff, PC's, security precautions)
Also I was informed that the exam length would be 120 mins long. The
Cisco rider at the start of the exam said this too. Approx 40 mins
into the exam I check the time, and only find there is 50 mins left!!
I was stressing big time. Cisco said themselves that the exam was 120
mins long. I had 2 lab simulations to do (configure IP's/RIP for 3
routers and configure IP's for 1 router with subnet constraints).
But in the end it was all good. I finished the exam with 17 sec to
spare (!) and scored 962 (and made a silly rushed mistake about cdp
after noticing the time remaining). I used Odom's cert. book (which
was excellent) and Boson NetSim and studied seriously for about a
month. The theory/subnetting wasn't hard coming from an eng/cs
background - NetSim helped me the most. All CCNA theory could be
simulated perfectly. I definitely recommend getting router experience
whether it be physical, rental or sims.
Looking forward to the ccnp...

During my CCNA exam two months ago I was given the same laminate board, but
after writing it completely I asked about the next one so I didn't have to
erase anything.

| Hi,
i did the exam today and the same happens to me as well
at the Prometric Testcenter in Frankfurt/M.
The supervisor at the testcenter didn't have any glue, as i was
asking him how long the test will take. He stated: On the paper
it looks like 2 Hours. But on the Cisco Webpage only 90 min.
are mentioned. So i assumed the test to be 90 min, and i
was right, ending the test 3 min before, rushing through the
question.
Also the pen you get is a joke. It runs try in a few seconds, if
you don't lock it up.
I ended up with a score of 911, being a lucky guy, as in between
i wasn't sure of answering the simpelst questions right, due to time
pressure.

| Henrik;
What did you use for your study? If you have used Practice Test(s), what
was it?
I am preparing for writing 640-607 on October 20.
Any pointers are appreciated.
