Hey all,

Im sure this has been posted before but here goes. I need to order one of
the CCNP libraries to study for my CCNP exams. Im aware that the books that
are available at the moment seem to be outdated. Will the books that are
available now be much different from the books when they are revised? Also,
whats the difference between the CCNP Preperation Library and CCNP
Certification Library? Im looking at ordering a set this weekend so I can
get started as soon as possible.

Thanks,
Ryan

Don't order the set because the new Ciscopress books are coming out this
fall. In fact, the BCMSN has just been published (September 18, 2003). If
you want to start with BSCI, there's already an Examcram 2 series book out.
I looked at it yesterday in a bookstore. It's not quite as detailed as the
Ciscopress book on BSCI from the Exam Preparation Library, but it's a pretty
good book. It definitely beats Todd Lammle's book. In fact, a lot of
information in it is right out of the Ciscopress book. The new Ciscopress
book on BSCI is coming out this November. If you want to see all those
books, go on www.bestbookbuys.com and enter the exam code in the search
field. Then select the "keyword" radio button.

The difference between the Certification Library and the Preparation Library
is that the former is geared towards passing the test while the latter is
basically the courseware for Cisco official curriculum. The authors of are
different too. Either set has its advantages and disadvantages. The
Certification Library comes with CD-ROMs that have practice tests on them.
It will be easier to make a choice this fall because Ciscopress is releasing
new books from the Certification Library only.

If I were you, I would start with the BCMSN test, then do BCRAN, then BSCI,
and then CIT. The BCMSN book is already out, so you can start right away. By
the time you pass 642-811, the BCRAN book will be out, and so forth.

Hey thanks alot for the info. I started to get confused about the whole
thing. I ordered the prep library from barnes & noble figuring it couldnt
change that much. I just cancelled the order and am going to pick up the
BCMSN now. Besides, we use alot of swtiches at my job so it would help me
better for now.

I find it odd when they change tests they dont have the books ready. I
wanted the library because it would cost less as a set. Oh well. At least
the company will reimburse when I pass.

Barnes & Noble isn't the best place to buy the books. If you use
www.bestbookbuys.com, you will see that other on-line stores sell those
books for much cheaper. By the way, Barnes & Noble on-line bookstore is the
same as Amazon.com. They combined their on-line stores. The price is the
same, and the web site is powered by Amazon.

Actually, it's Borders, that is powered by Amazon, sorry. But you can find a
better deal than Barnes & Noble anyway.
