| Hi,
With the new CCNA exam(s) do we now need to look at getting a 29xx for our
home labs or will a 19xx switch still do? Does anybody know? A 29xx switch
is quite a bit more expensive than a 19xx.

| Otto,
Both are tested on, but if you were only going to make one purchase, I'd buy
the 2950, which you can also use for BCMSN and CIT if you are pursuing your
CCNP.
Please note that even though both switches run the IOS, many, if not most,
of the commands are DIFFERENT between the two switches. The 1900 is EOL, so
for job purposes, I'd focus on the 2950 IOS, which is what Cisco's current
crop of IOS switches are using.
Hope this helps!
Cheers!

| So to prepare for the CCNA I need to know both, right? Is it enough to
practice on the 2950 or do I need to get hands-on experience with both?
I guess what I'm asking is which one should I buy for the CCNA. In real
life we are getting a bunch of 3750s so I will be learning those too, but I
need to know what to get for the CCNA exam. And since I'm paying for it
myself I'd like to find a cheap solution, if I can.
