Author 2501 router config question

recently purchased a cisco 2501 router . trying to configure it.lights
saying it passed its self test. I am using a RJ45 to serial cable

i use to configure it (hyper terminal) ? that is the program i am using . it
says i'm connected but can't get anything to come up on the screen .tried
using the command ROUTER . also tried hitting enter twice. nothing .

Is your cable a CISCO console cable or is it just a RJ45 to DB9 cable. A
Cisco console cable is rolled over. By that I mean

End #1 End #2
1 8
2 7
3 6
4 5
5 4
6 3
7 2
8 1
