| Hey guys,
A friend of mine said he can let me borrow a Cisco router to practice
commands with. Is it ok just to connect my computer to router(console)
and practice the IOS commands or do i have to put this router on a
'network' sort of speak? Thanks.

| The setup you mention is fine for getting acquainted with the router and
practicing commands. It would be even more useful if you could find a way to
connect another computer to the router as well to see if you can establish
communication and set up access control lists and such.

| Hi
A single router is ok to test some IOS commands however you'll need to get
more equipment to make a network and practice routing etc.
Why not just rent some time on a online lab. Its cheaper than buying
equipment, already set-up and easy to use.
Check ours out at www.acorn-internet.net

For BGP simulation, have a look at BGP++ from Georgia Tech, a tool for
BGP simulation in ns-2 (based on Zebra).
