Can someone recommend a CISCO based router for home use, something as near
to what I need for the accad curriculum as possible... I'm starting the 4
semester next September. I'm currently on a cable modem, using Internet
connection Sharing in W2k through one Nic card and wireless sharing
internally. I'm adding a new PC to my LAN. I'm keeping the ICS and Wireless
set-up but I want to use a router to create 2 broadcast domains or 2
physical networks behind (back-end) the Cable modem. Thanks for any help you
can provide.

Merci
Legato

I've got a 1605R that I think is just great.

It has two 10baseT interfaces on it which is really all you need for
connecting to a cable modem or DSL. The data rates on those two
technologies will not in any way use all of a 10baseT interface. Plug
that into a little linksys switch or better yet a pair of Cisco 2924s
or similar (2924 and maybe a 1900 would be cool) and you'll have a
nice little practice lab for some switching.

None of those are terribly expensive via evil bay.

You really need a lab with a couple of 2500's or 2600's. If you really
want to connect a router behind your cable modem, get a Cisco 806.

Thanks, interesting stuff... I found this review about the 806...
http://www.modemhelp.org/reviews/august2002.html
It's a start. I will try to reference the other suggestions as well.
If cost, availlabilty and accessibilty are right I may spend the X
amount of money to build up to a more suitable lab enviroment...

Merci encore...

You can buy a ubr924 fairly inexpensively on ebay, as long as you can
get updated software for it. AT&T seems to like several 12.2 version
for dhcp-proxy nat. I would probably look at getting some 2514s as
well. They are relatively cheap on ebay, but will also need plenty or
ram/flash for 12.2 ios releases.
