OT: Pix 501 PDM issue after upgrade
|
|
|
| I have a Pix 501, that I just recently went to upgrade to PDM 3.0 from
1.1 (factory default). I downloaded all the images a few months ago,
but never got around to doing it (Yes, I know, *PLONK*). I figured
with the recent rash of cisco breaches, I'd be safe to upgrade them
now. Anyways, its now a couple months out of warranty, and of course,
now run into an issue.
I tftp'd the new 3.0 PDM without any problems. I logged into PDM as
normal via https and it asked for the password I had set, etc., but
then when it would normally start loading up the various tabs with the
config info, it said that it wasn't compatible with Pix OS 6.1(2), and
that I needed to upgrade my Pix OS to 6.3. So, I do as commanded like
a good little tech, and that goes fine as well. Pix Reboots nice and
clean, config still is intact, etc., but now when I try to log into
the PDM via https it asks me for my password and no longer recognizes
it. It asks 3x and then dumps me out to an error screen which says:
Authorization Required
Browser not authentication-capable or authentication failed.
The console login, however, still works just fine. I actually prefer
the console for most things, however, the PDM does have its quick and
dirty uses too, and I'd really like it back.
I have tried the password I had it set to before the upgrade numerous
times, and I've also tried the blank, no password that is default. I
am logging in as user PDM, as I used to, and no matter what I've
tried, it will not let me in.
I then figured I'd go ahead and try the password recovery, but didn't
actually expect it to recover the PDM password. I was right, it only
removed the password for enable and telnet.
I've searched high and low for something that tells me how to
remove/recover the PDM password, but nothing can be found. As I said,
it's just barely out of warranty (May 2003), and so I'm out of luck as
far as calling Cisco (haven't tried, but am pretty sure they'll want a
CCO, like they normally do).
I've just now finished downgrading to PDM 1.1(2), but it still will
not let me in. That was my last hope, and now I'm turning to you all.
I know how to wipe the OS to factory default, but cannot find anything
about wiping the entire device, including the PDM, to default. You
know, no password, no nothing, fresh out of the box type of wipe.
Anyone have any ideas?
TIA,
- Fuzzy -

| Well, it used to be PDM with 1.1(2) that I had. But I just now tried
pix and PIX, both with my old password, and with the default blank
password, and neither worked either, but thanks anyways.

| Actually, Nunya, you helped me big time. Your response got me to
thinking, and since there's no username for the console login, maybe
they got rid of the username part... so this time I tried it without a
username, but using my old password, and it let me in! Bizarre, that
it would dump the username, but keep the password. Anyways, that's
the solution, if anyone else gets bit by the upgrade bug.
Thanks,
