| Hi,
If I start taking exams towards a CCNP, are tests I pass with
the current exam numbers offered still valid as the new exams become
the standard? Are they separate tracks or can a person gracefully
start with the currently available exams and begin taking the newer
exans and still qualify for a CCNP? In short are they
interchangeable?

Here's the answer from the Cisco site;
Will I be able to Mix and Match Exams for the CCNP Certification?
Question
Will I be able to mix and match exams for the CCNP certification?
Answer
Yes, those who have passed earlier versions of the CCNP exams (such
as 640-605 or 640-505) are able to apply those exams towards the CCNP
certification requirements.
However exams such as ACRC 640-201, ACRC 640-403, CLSC 640-205, CLSC
640-404, CMTD 640-206, CMTD 640-405 and Foundation 640-409 will not
carry over to the new CCNP program. If you have passed these exams and
you intend to use them towards the CCNP program, please complete all
requirements on or before September 1, 2003 to obtain your CCNP
certification.
