The crossover cables are connected between two serial ports. The port to which you connect the DCE side of the cable is the router that performs clocking for the router that receives the DTE side of the cable. With two routers, you can get by with only o
ne cable between them.

The Ethernet cables go between the routers and the switch, then from the switch to the host PCs.

Cisco provides a LOT of info regarding setup of routers in their books (ICND - Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices). I learned a lot from that book!

At the moment, I have two 2501s and two 2507s. I'm planning on getting a 2514 and a 1924 when I have the funds. My lab works well with the four routers a the moment, though. Next semester, I'll really need the 1924, though.
