| I have 2 PCs one with Windows ME and one with Windows 98 SE. I am trying to
network them together but i cant ping each other. The PC with the Windows ME
is my primary PC with connection to the Internet (i dont want to share the
connection). I have installed in the Windows ME PC both Zone Alarm Pro and
Norton Internet Security. What is the problem?

| What network protocol are you running that is common on both machines -
TCP/IP? Do both machines have a static IP address; i.e. 192.168.0.1 &
192.168.0.2 or something similar?
Both firewalls will block pings. You will need to temporarily disable them
to test.

| Is there a switch or hub in this configuration? Are you trying to directly
connect 2 pc's together? Need some more info to come up with any real help.

| I think that the firewalls are keeping you from pinging the other PC. I disable my Zone Alarm to get connectivity between two PCs and it works a lot better! Most firewalls prevent ICMP echo requests (fancy name for Ping).
