Hey all,

I've never posted here but i sure have lurked alot and got alot of
information out of the newsgroup.
To such extent that i was able to pass my ccna on the first try today with
an 873, its not a perfect score,
and i think if i had used more study material i would be able to get a bit
more.
(i used the cisco network academy course semester 1-4 and a few random
online free tests).

thanks everyone for posting here and sharing your experiences.

Congratulations.....873 is a passing score. I don't think anyone ever got a
perfect score...not that I know of.....but your now CCNA certified. There's
lots of people out there who are still trying to get above 849. Some have
tried more than once and are still struggling to pass. Good luck in the
future.

Just curious, but how long did you study for the exam?

HEY!!! I got 873 too! I took it on the 10th of June. Congratulations. I'm
taking the CCNP next year (my senior year). How about you?

First... Congrats to Dark... Second, William Allen... I got a perfect
score on my CCNA test, so some people do get them sometimes... think I
got a perfect score because I never take a test before I'm absolute
sure I will pass it. It was my first Cisco test, so I didn't know what
to expect really... Lurking this newsgroup gave me a wrong impression
of the test (thought it would be much much harder). Anyway... just
wanted to let you know that perfect scores do come around sometimes...
didn't get any perfect scores on my CCNP tests till now... won't
happen either I guess.

Good luck to everyone taking the CCNA exam (or any other test). One
last tip to every student... Understand what you're doing is probaly
the very most important thing to remember. If you're not sure what
something (technology/command) does... search the cisco site for a
whitepaper on it and you will understand... If you will put in that
kind of effort you will pass the exams.

Greetz,

Congrats. Do you mean that were a Cisco Network Academy Student for 4
semesters, or that you "used" the semester 1-4 curriculum ? (without
the benefit of going to an Academy)

Do you know what they call the medical student who graduates with the lowest
grade point average?

DOCTOR!

Congrats.

First off,

thanks all for the kinds words, makes me feel all fuzzy

To answer some questions :

Combined i studied this over 1 schoolyear (4 semesters of the network
academy), however actual studytime would be around 3 months of
being busy with the subject in test enviroments and at home.

For exam preparation i studied a little over a week, mind you that i had
allready studied the 4 semesters
of the network academy and completed all of their tests including the
semester 1-4 test.

My school offers the cisco academy program to IT students and they had the
2500 type routers available to toy around with to get a little hands on
experience (i had no hardware router experience until i got started with the
cisco program). They did not help with the preparation nor information for
the Ccna exam itself, i had to do that in a certified center.

I'm not sure if i will go for another cert yet, depends on if i feel it
would help me in a way the ccna program did, i like knowing how things work

Ask away if you have anymore questions.

Hi,

In regards to that rare individual who got a "perfect" score. I don't
doubt that he - or she - got a 100%. What I do want to point out,
though, is that in my limited experience of taking Cisco tests, I too
often have seen questions that were presented so poorly, that,
strictly speaking, none of the possible answers presented were
actually correct! Another words, I am more likely to believe that it
is more likely that on a particular question - one for which I make
this (unfounded/unproven - but remember, this is just my theory)claim,
that the person who got that 100% actually answered that question
wrong - properly!.... Do you follow me? Sometimes I get so skeptical,
that I start to believe that Cisco is sliding such questions in - with
their corresponding wrong answers - to see if there is certain types
of cheating taking place...

Well, that's my thought, anyway. btw, I just passed my CCIE Sec.
Written, and I am now studying for my lab - Dec. 5, '03.

Sure. Basically, even the most knowledgeable person is likely to miss
at least one question. Maybe they completely nail every question but
two. Of those two, perhaps they puzzle over the wording, or all
answers are technically incorrect or all correct, etc. In the end,
they reduce those two questions to a educated guess as to what the
heck the question is asking. So supposing it is only one question
that is a problem. Then making a perfect score is reduced to a 1 in 4
chance because of guessing on a poorly worded question. I think that
recaps your comments.

Nah, it's not that. At any rate it wouldn't help them figure out the
cheating bit--I'm not seeing that connection. The real cause though
is that Cisco outsources exam development. So quality is going to
suffer when you do that. Plus, what happens is that SME's are pulled
in without regard for their writing ability. You may be the guru on
the PIX, so you are asked to help write the exam. Who cares if
English is your fourth language... Yeah there is a review process to
correct grammar etc., but in the end it still does impact the exam
quality, at least slightly, when you have people designing questions
who don't grasp English very well.
