| Hi
Just bought a new wic-1t to put in a 1605 in my home lab and I'm having a
few problems with it.
The router will begin to load and the freezes as it starts to load the
config.
Here's the output:
Cisco Internetwork Operating System Software
IOS (tm) 1600 Software (C1600-NOSY-M), Version 12.2(10b), RELEASE SOFTWARE
(fc1)
Copyright (c) 1986-2002 by cisco Systems, Inc.
Compiled Fri 12-Jul-02 01:57 by pwade
Image text-base: 0x02005000, data-base: 0x028F60A8
cisco 1605 (68360) processor (revision C) with 15872K/512K bytes of memory.
Processor board ID 18448789, with hardware revision 00000002
Bridging software.
X.25 software, Version 3.0.0.
2 Ethernet/IEEE 802.3 interface(s)
1 Serial network interface(s)
WIC T1-DSU
System/IO memory with parity disabled
8192K bytes of DRAM onboard 8192K bytes of DRAM on SIMM
System running from RAM
7K bytes of non-volatile configuration memory.
6144K bytes of processor board PCMCIA flash (Read/Write) ** freezes at this
point**
I've tried another wic card which boots OK but reports the serial interface
as (sync/async), not as WIC T1-DSU as shown in the above output.
(it's not a WIC-1DSU-T1 card - it's got a DB60 connector)
My first thought is that the card is dodgey, but it's new !!!
Found nothing on Cisco that helps so if anyone can shed some light on this
it would be greatly appreciated.

| Bob,
Most likely it is new and in fact it is bad. Problem might very well be
that it is not new from Cisco, but in fact new from the Far East. Meaning
counterfeit, which is a major problem with a lot of WICs and NMs lately.
Fuzzy printing on the box. Minimal documentation. and a weak metal tab will
help identify.
I would suggest either calling Cisco (they will run the serial number) to
confirm.
Returning it to the original purchase place is a definite.
These days if a new WIC or new NM fail out of the box we assume it is
counterfeit.
Hope this helps,
Roger Linston

| I have never heard of a WIC T1 DSU before, and neither has the Cisco CCO
site.
Whenever I do a " sh ver" on any of my routers with a WIC-1T it gives me...
1 Serial (sync/async) network interface(s)
There is a WIC-1T not a WIC T1, You say it has a DB-60 interface?

I ran through the HW/SW compatibility matrix and see no intersection with
your IOS. This could mean that it won't work with your IOS or that they
just haven't tested it... I did see an intersection at 12.2(1)

Thanks to everyone for the posts.
The card and documentation look legitimate so I persisted with a few more
tests this morning.
Booted from ROM which ouputed the following result.
Unrecognized interface found (0-1 = Motherboard interfaces 2 = WIC)
Interface 2 unrecognized by boothelper
Also loaded a newer IOS which got a few more lines into the config and then
froze.
So I'm assuming that it's a faulty card.
Thanks again for your help.

| Funny, because I didn't see anyone writing about a WIC T1 DSU, seems the
subject says wic-1t. I hate it when that dyslexia gets in the way of
progress.

| Even more funny, is that anyone who actually reads the post can see it
plainly says:
X.25 software, Version 3.0.0.
2 Ethernet/IEEE 802.3 interface(s)
1 Serial network interface(s)
WIC T1-DSU
Right at the bottom there, WIC T1-DSU. I hate it when somebody is eager to
jump down someone's throat. Now that gets in the way of progress.

| It's definitely a WIC-1T. The IOS output reports it as a WIC T1-DSU.
I don't think this is out of the ordinary as I found another post that
showed
an output from a working card that reported the same.
I think the card is faulty as I tried it in another 1601 and got much the
same result as in the 1605.
Thanks for your help.

| Thanks Roger
I've come to the same conclusion. It's definitely a genuine Cisco article
(but faulty) so I'm
hoping that it can be replaced.
