CCNA/CCNP Lab Design

| Does anyone have any good resources on flexible and, hopefully, cost
effective lab setups. I see a lot of folks offering a slew of 2501's (and
2502's hahahahhaaa) with the description of 'CCNA Lab Kit'. Well, even with
the small amount of catalyst switching experience I know that the ppl
selling these are greedy morons. Maybe you people who are running home labs
could post what you have.
TIA,
Jack

| Why are they greedy morons? 2500's are EXCELLENT to train for CCNA, CCNP,
and even CCIE. They can run 12.2 Enterprise Plus, which is all you need for
learning. Sure, maybe you might want an ethernet int that can can do ISL and
dot1q, but you can buy just 1 2600 for that, and keep the rest of the
2500's. The 2502 is FINE for learning as well. Most of my lab setups I
practice at home use the serial interface, and the ethernet interface sits
there shutdown. So, the fact that the 2502 has a TKR int is irrelevant.
2501's sell for less than $200 on ebay fully upgraded, which is CHEEEAAAP.

| Agreed. 2500's are good infact they are great. I love racking up older cisco
gear. I am cheap, loud and proud.
Your learning the how and why, not if you have the latest and the greatest.
A lot of people get mixed up thinking they need more when they may not. I
love my 7010 router..tons of interfaces that are freaking cheap on ebay so
what if the ios is 11.2 its still great...has a lot of features and if you
want to learn more use them on the 2500's.. same goes to the cisco 2820
awesome and cheap. The only downer is 2500 does not support pppoe client
command for my ADSL. I am using a webramp router running sonic wall firmware
again got for cheap its a knockoff sonic wall hehe.
Is there a theme? yeah don't spend your money when you do not need to.
if there is no reason for it then you do not need it.

| I'm sitting here looking at my 10 router stack, and I got it ALL for less
than $1400. all 25xx series (and even 2 2502's)
I even have some 1005's!!
so its not as fast as a 2600, but how much power do you need to test route
redistribution? how much bandwidth do you need to test with 4 ping packets?
25xx series routers are EXCELLENT to learn on, and even for low traffic
remote sites. as said before- dont spend your $$ on power you dont need.
