Telnet question revisited
|
|

| What are the requirements to Telnet into a 1900 catalyst switch??? I
have searched high and low and seem to be overlooking the answer somewhere.
I know a correct IP configuration with correct subnet mask and default
gateway all have to be right. However there is one other obscure thing that
is required. The answer is not a password being established for LINE VTY 0
4. Can anyone provide some assistance. Cover to cover shows nothing of
this in the ICND by cisco press or any of the other study materials I have.
TIA,
Rob

| That isn't the answer I am looking for as indicated in the body of the
initial posting.

Enabling a password for the terminal line was not one of the options.
However one of them were requirements for a Management VLAN to be
established. I do not specifically remember any other requirements and have
not been able to find, or rule out this option as if I am correct. Perhaps
I should restate the question as follows.
Does the 1900 series switch require a MANAGEMENT VLAN to be established
before it can be telnetted into??? VLAN 1 is enabled as the MANAGEMENT VLAN
by default this is why this question has me stumped.
Thanks again in advance,
Rob

Still and all, it was essentially the right answer. The 1900 switch
software comes in two flavours - Standard and Enhanced.
The Enhanced software is IOS-based and you need to configure a
system-level password (enable secret or enable password) - ***as well
as*** a vty line password - to permit remote CLI management.
The Standard software is menu-based, but you still need to set the
Console password to permit a telnet session.

| Thanks, again, BUT!!!!! Passwords were not one of the options. I know
that they must be configured before a VTY session will be allowd as with a
router as well. The question still stands rephrased as this.
Does a 1900 series switch require in addition to properly configured IP
address, subnet mask yada yada yada...... A MANAGEMENT VLAN?????
Pretend that the passwords are also configured.
Let's say that the default MANAGEMENT VLAN which should be VLAN 1 was
manually removed from MANAGEMENT status.
Would a telnet session still be able to be established with the switch.
I viewed this MULTIPLE CHOICE question somewhere and cannot for the life of
me figure out the answer, however PASSWORDS were not one of the MULTI CHOICE
OPTIONS!!!!!!!

| I've never been in an environment where the Mgmt VLAN was removed as an
interface. Shrug. I'm useless.

| Thanks,
Had this question several times on an attempt at getting CCNA, and it
stumped me each time. I thought all that was required was proper IP
configuration, and setting passwords on the enabled VTY lines. As I
answered the last question quite possibly it seemed to me that the
Management VLAN was the only answer that was common all four times this is
why I am trying to rule that one out first!!!!
