Author AS5800 modem firmware loading
Rooter?

I have an AS5800 router with two MICA cards in slots 2 & 3 (144 modems
per card). Under IOS 11.3(9)AA2 the config to load the
portware/firmware to
the modems is:

modem-pool Default
pool-range 1/2/0-1/3/143
firmware slot0ortware.2.6.2.0.bin
!

which says, load portware.2.6.2.0.bin onto all modems within the range
1/2/0-1/3/143 (all 288 modems). After loading IOS 12.1(19) the line
"firmware slot0ortware.2.6.2.0.bin" is missing under the "modem-pool
Default" command. After trying to re-enter the command the IOS says
to use SPE commands instead
for loading modem firmware. When attempting to tell SPE where to load
the firmware, it complains about the location every time, no matter
the variations:

as5800(config)#spe 1/2/0 1/3/143
^
& Invalid input detected at '^' marker.

as5800(config)#spe 1/2/0 1/3/14
%Error: SPE 0 does not exist in slot 2

as5800(config)#spe 1/3/0 1/3/11
%Error: SPE 0 does not exist in slot 3

I have noticed that a 'show modem version' seems to list off the
modems in
groups of 12:

Modem Range: 1/2/00 1/2/11 Modem Module: 0
Modem Range: 1/2/12 1/2/23 Modem Module: 1
Modem Range: 1/2/24 1/2/35 Modem Module: 2

My questions are:
Should I be telling SPE where to load the firmware in groups of 12 ?
Would the location change at all, couldn't see why?
If I got an IOS for the 5800 with 'bundled' firmware how does the IOS
handle
loading the code to the modems (automatically?) ?

thanks in advance!
