ISDN Layer 1 problem please help
|
|
| eugene123 2003-04-25, 11:24 am |
| I have an 2610 router setup at a remote site and I continue to get a
Layer 1 deactivated. The router has been tested and the interface and
ISDN work properly when tested at another site.
The ISDN line is flagged for data and I have configured my switch-type
as basic-national. The actual switch that the service provider uses
is a 5ess but they told us we have to configure it as basic-ni to
work.
I had the service provider dial into our pri equipment by unplugging
the cable from the router and dialing with that cable connected
directly to the jack. All works fine when they dial. I even listened
to them dial and connect to their switch.
This router has an internal NT1 and we never get any active light when
connected to the ISDN jack which is active. I have been working with
ISDN for years and I have never seen this problem. I am using the
proper cable which is a straight-thru. I do not what to do now. I am
stuck.
I have tried different 2610 routers and bri interfaces, different
straight-thru cables and receive the same result. The thing that get
me is I even saw with my own eyes the service provider dial into our
PRI equipement with their test equipment
What do you believe might be the problem?
Please help,
Any responses are greatly appreciated,
Thanks,

| Sorry I should have read the post a little more clearly.
If layer 1 is deactivated then you have a telco issue.
I am confused at what you mean " I had the service provider
dial into our pri equipment by unplugging the cable from the
router and dialing with that cable connected directly to the jack.
All works fine when they dial. I even listened to them dial and
connect to their switch."
How were they able to dial if you have Layer 1 deactived?
Can you please post show isdn stauts, turn on debug isdn q921
and debug isdn q931 and debug dialer and post those results as well.

| Do you have BRI or PRI? What is the part# of your ISDN WIC card? Are you
sure that you don't have a PRI circuit and BRI WIC, or vice versa?

| Here is the output from a show Isdn status:

The Free Channel Mask: 0x80000003
This is the card #

Test history 0x0 RMA number 00-00-00
Connector type Wan Module

How was the service provider was able to dial?
I am having the service provider plug their test equipment into the
ISDN jack at the remote site and that is when the line becomes active
but when the router connects to the jack from the bri interface I do
not receive any activity on the router. I know the router and bri
interface work okay because I tested them at another site and I
receive a layer 1 active light.
So in others layer 1 is deactiated when the router is connected to the
ISDN jack. But when the Service uses their equipment they receive
activity on the exact same jack. Why are they active but my router
bri interface not on this BRI line? Is it an electrical issue? Does
ISDN on a router need a certain amount of signal power to activate? Is
the router BRI interface less sensitive than the test equipment that
SBC uses to test the line?
Thank You,

| Couple more questions how far is the router from the ISDN jack?
First thing I would do is replace the patch cable running from the ISDN jack
to the router. If you tested the router and the BRI module worked before you
mailed it. I don't think you have a electrical issue.
Let me ask a dumb question did you do a no shut on the BRI interface?
If so then you have a physical issue. Bad patch cord, since your BRI has a
built in NT1 there is no external NT1 to look at.

You are connecting PRI circuit to BRI interface. that's the problem
