No. Console only.

Of course, write in configuration mode:

line vty 0 4
password your_password
login

Write the same for "line con 0" to enable password for console port.

Regards.

Line passwords are different than enable passwords. You can set the
enable password from console only.

I don't know what kind of router is the target, but I use a Cisco 803 ISDN
router and image c800-y6-mw.121-7.bin, and I can change the enable password
through telnet conection.

Regards.

Since Hansang is rarely wrong I will guess I misunderstood something here.
I change the enable passwords on my routers over ssh every couple of
months. They range from 3620s to 7513s. If they could only be changed from
console I would be in trouble since they are in several different
countries.Hmm, actually I change the enable secret. Is
regular enable console only maybe?

I should have been more clear. If you don't have an ENABLE password
ALREADY defined, you can't change it from a telnet session. That's how
I took the first post. I.e. the router was sent to a remote location
w/o an enable password.

if you already have an enable password, the one you setted in the console
first time, then you can change it any time from telnet and that can be
enable or enable secret.

cheers

See, I knew I must have missed something! He did say "set" presumably
meaning an initial occurence rather than "change", which is how I read it.

Ok John, you're rigth, Hansang Bae said "That's how I took the first post."
but nothing about this is in the first post.

I have lots of job to do, so I will avoid "semantic details" about this
topic.

Thank you.

True the line vty but do you want to set up 5 possible telnet sessions at
one time. Tha'ts what the line vty 0 4 is. Can't you just say line vty 0?

Sure, but what happened if that line is already in use?
