2611 router DSL problem

| Hello,
Maybe somebody can help me before I turn to my service provider.
We have a Cisco 2611 (ios 12.0[7]) with two ethernet ports and two wics.
Right now we have the following setup:
1. ethernet0/0
This is connected to a 3com 3300 switch and is being used for local network
(network 192.168.1.0)
2. ethernet0/1
This is connected to a 3com 3300tm switch and that one is connected to a
Meridian PABX
(network 192.168.5.0)
3. serial0/0 (frame relay leased line)
This is now connected to the Internet through our provider
4. serial0/1 (frame relay leased line)
This is connected to another location of ours and through this line goes ip
telephone and data
(unnumbered)
Now we got another line to the Internet. Instead of frame relay we got a DSL
line.
This line was delivered with a Cisco ADSL router and a fixed IP address, so
some how we have to connect the ADSL router to the router.
Unfortunately Cisco does not offer an ethernet connection for one of the
wics. So either I do something with the existing ethernet ports or use a pc
router or something.
Can somebody please help me. This is driving me crazy and our provider
refuses to deliver DSL without the router.
TIA.
Regards,
Frankie

I know there is a WIC-1E, but it was released as a 1700-only card.
Don't know if it works in a 2600 or if there is anything else that
does the same job.
You could have the ADSL router set to a 192.168.1.0 address and simply
plug it into the 3300. You'd probably have to change some default
gateways.

I looked, and there isn't.

The WIC-1ENET is 1700 only. You could put in a WIC-1ADSL (though that
may take an IOS change). Just because they make you take the ADSL
router doesn't mean you have to use it...

| Unfortunately they will not give me the setup for their router, so a wic is
no option! I have to use the router they supplied me and it does not offer
NAT!

| I don't have the part number on hand - but on the left side of the router is
an expansion slot that can take a 1 Ether or 4 Ether card (check ebay - for
2600 and ethernet - I have seen them up there before).

| The WIC-1ENET will work in a 26XX router, but only in a network module.
As Dale has said, the simplest thing is to add an Ethernet Network Module.
The 2600 will only take 10M modules, such as NM-1E2W (not NM-xFExx)

Unfortunately the network module is already occupied with an ISDN-4 card. So
I have nothing left on this router. Can I do anything else?

Frankie

Personally, I'd get on the phone and turn into Evil Belligerent
Customer until they gave me the config (assuming you've already asked
nicely). Assuming they aren't stupid enough to leave in passwords,
there is no reason why they shouldn't give it to you.
I'd also presume that the router does include the capability of NAT,
they just don't want to be bothered to configure it to help out the
customer. Another reason I'd turn into Evil Belligerent Customer.

| Hello Frankie,
i think you ar able to connect the adsl routers ethernet to one of the 3300
switches. than you are able to configure the a secondary ip adress of the
2600 ethernet were the 3300 is connected to. than put in the default route
on the 2600 with the destination of the eth from the adsl. but be carefull
you don't have a firewall than.
and i think you atre able to nat the addresse too, if you want.
the only bad think in this way is that the internet traffic takes the
bandwith of the ethernet twice.
regards
oliver

| NM-1E2W WILL NOT work in a 2600: http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/107/nm-e2w.shtml
The NM-1E will work in a 2600: http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td...at/etne__p2.htm
The NM-1FE will work in a 2600 but is unsupported and undocumented.

| OR...
they aren't giving the config because it contains alot of sensitive backbone
information?
ie: snmp strings/access lists/circuit info.. If the client's are given
access to their routers config with some isp's, you may as well give them
access to the distribution routers as well ;P. Alot of isps interface
DESCRIPTION lines contain enough sensitive information, this is to make
troubleshooting problems easier..
they would basically have to gray out pretty much everything...
Also, why don't you just call and ask them to give you the info over the
phone? I mean, not detailed, but I don't think they'd hesitate really...
They don't send configs because whoever sends the email, it's his XXX on the
line.
just out of curiosity, who is the ISP, not that it matters, they pretty much
all act the same..

| ISP is KPN in the Netherlands!
But I found a good solution. I will put a Cisco PIX between the router and
network. This solves everything!
