Is the CCIE written like a mesh of all the CCNP tests or is it a lot more
difficult/different?

I've been told it is similar but often more detailed and much deeper. You
really have to know it all

It is MUCH more difficult that the CCNP exams. Not only do you need to
cover the material presented in all four CCNP exams in one test, the depth
in that one test is much deeper. I have recently passed CCIE and previously
did the CCNP/DP series. CCIE is very much more difficult. Ten times more
difficult. I say this only to save you $300 and not to scare you off. If
you go into the written expecting it to be CCNP standard you will DEFINITLEY
fail. Sorry if that's bad news....

I'm not so sure. In my opinion the CCIE written is not that difficult. I did
both, and if I could choose between; doing all CCNP exams again or doing
CCIE written; I'd definitly do the CCIE written again.
But ok that's my opinion.

I think what makes the CCIE written hard is that it's the entire breadth in
one exam, so you can't cram for a relatively narrow range of topics and take
the test right afterward. It's beyond the scope of cramming.
