study Pix clone activation key

| Hi Everyone,
After struggling for the past two days, I have successfully cloned a Pix
firewall by using my PC.
I plug the 16MB flash card into the PC's ISA slot and the PC recognize
that it is a Pix flash card
It boots up fine and everything seems to be in order. However, after the
boot up
sequence, it asks me for the activation key. I've been trying many
different possible scenarios without
much success. I even tried to use the activation key from another Pix
firewall but that doesn't work
either.
Anybody know how I can fake my clone Pix with a fake activation key? By
the way,I am running Pix OS
code version 6.2(2). I even tried 5.3(1), 5.3(2), 6.0(1) and 6.1(1) and
one of them works. By the way,
the PC has 192MB of RAM and the... 16Mb Flash ISA card.
I "stress" this is for study purposes only.. nothing else !!
Thanks for any assistance !!

| J Kelly,
I hate to break the bad news to you, but the activation key is tied to the
hardware of the PIX--if your PIX's motherboard went dead, and you replaced
it, the old key wouldn't work with the new motherboard, at least according
to TAC. The reason Cisco takes this approach is the almight $--many
companies that own PIXs don't need every feature, like 3DES. So you pay for
the extras that you desire. I'm very surprised that Cisco doesn't do this
with their other products, especially their routers, since I know A LOT of
companies and people abuse the honor system that Cisco has based on your CCO
access.
Sorry for the bad news!
Cheers!

| Hey,
I have good news for you. Activation key bounded not to motherboard. It's
bounded to serial number on PIX Flash Card. If you have real Cisco PIX Flash
card, look for a lable with "serial number". Then, if you have Cisco CCO
account, you may go
https://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/Softw...tor.pl?pid=221&
fid=324 and enter your serial number. after short period of time you will
receive e-mail with activation key. It's free since you have "PIX". But
actually even if you will not enter any activation key it will boot but you
will have probably 1024 connections and 2 or 3 interfaces allowed. It may be
enough for testlab.
Good luck.
