Has anyone setup a Powerbook, iBook or G4/G3 with Mac OSX to connect to
the console port of cisco equipment?

I am more ecomfortable with Mac and everything in the literature talks
about Windows Hyperterminal. I would rather use Mac's Terminal and get
a USB to DB9 converter. Have any of you done this?

TIA for your input.

Greetings,

Sure thing you can use a Mac running OS X for console access to Cisco
equipment.

I like the keyspan USA-19QW USB to DB-9 serial adapter
see http://www.keyspan.com for more information.

Along with that you will need some sort of terminal program such as
Zterm which is freely available.

Works like a champ.

Cool thanks for the info.
I used to use Zterm for accessing BBS systems "back-in-the-day" never
figured I would have a use for it again.
Thanks again

I can't remember what I used on my Macs (back in the 6.8.x days) and
LISAs (yes, LISAs) running 6.8.x OS. BlackKnight was it? I think I
also remember Comet being one of the emulators. Can't believe that was
damn near 15 years ago!

A lot of universities bought them. Just like they bought NeXT machines.
What did they say about NeXT? GUI made it a MAC, OS made it a
workstation, and unit sales made it a Main Frame!
