CCSP - Anyone done it?
|

| I am querying about the new CCSP course that cisco is offering
Has anyone done it?
Is it better than taking CCNP?
I currently want to specialize in Network Security, however,
Should i be taking CCNP then take another Security couse such as the
CISSP, or just take the CCSP?
Plus, what sort of Lab would i need....
I currently have 2x2501's and a 1x2620
Thanks

The CCSP certification is constantly going through changes. Unlike the CCNP,
you need to pass 5 exams for the CCSP. At least from my perspective, the
CCSP exams are more difficult than the CCNP ones. As to if it's better, both
have different focuses. Take the CCSP stuff if you're interested in
primarily working with security with Cisco products. If you're doing normal
networking functions, than take the CCNP path.

CISSP is more generalized while CCSP is Cisco-specific.

Well, the CSVPN exam focuses on the 3000 concentrators, the 3002 client, and
the Cisco software client. None of these use an IOS-style interface but a
GUI interface. Having hands-on experience is helpful to pass this exam, but
can be accomplished with out it. It's hard to find a used 3005 or 3002 on
ebay, but every now and then I'll see a 3005 for $1000-$1,200. Otherwise,
expect to spend $1900+ for a new one. The 3002 can be purchased for $300.
For the CSPFA, you can get away with a PIX 501--used, these run $250.
For the SECUR exam, you only need routers, both should support IPSec and one
should have the IOS Firewall feature set installed
For the IDS Exam, you'll need an IDS 4200 series sensor. Be careful about
purchasing a used one since the older ones don't support the newest software
version, which is what Cisco tests on. Every now and then I'll see a used
4210, with the appropriate memory (512 MB) for under $2,000, and sometimes
even less. Passing this exam without hands-on exposure is probably not
likely.
Get a 90-day eval copy of the VMS software. You'll see a few questions on
the Router and PIX components on the appropriate exams, and a large number
of questions on the new IDS beta exam on the IDS MC software component.
I think this covers the bulk of the equipment you'll need. As you can see,
the CCNP path is much cheaper since you can get away with a lot less
equipment.

Not a problem!
Cheers!

Correction! You can build frankinstane IDS with any old PC. At least it was
possible with code 4.0. You may try to find software (if someone has it) or
download ISO image from Cisco FTP site (was available as Beta-version). Boot
from CD and install it. Works as real...

| I did a google search on "build frankinstane IDS" but could not find
anything. Could you please give URL or any other info on frankinstane
IDS.
