I am sure this has probably been covered in the newsgroup, but my news
server only goes back a few days =/

I have recently come into a nice sum of money and decided to build myself a
home lab to study for my CCNA, CCNP and beyond.. What hardware would you
recommend?

I currently have 2- 2501's

Thanks

Chaz

You are only missing a switch and the hardware to go with the routers. You
need ethernet transceivers for each router. Also a crossover cable will do
in lieu of a DTE and DCE cable. You'll need a couple of straight-thru
cables and a rollover cable to plug into your console port on routers. By
the way, the old 640-607 exam for CCNA required a Cisco 1900 switch. I
heard now its best to get a 2900 switch. Don't really know what you need
for CCNP.. Oh yeah, you need a DB-9 to RJ45 adapter. Good luck.

Chester

From what you have mentioned all you need is a switch and you will be
sorted.

I am able to get to some of these should you require. Let me know what type
of thing you would be looking for and I will give you a price

Cheers

Chester,

It really depends on how much money you have to spend. If you want to go
all out with a nice CCIE level lab, you'll need about $10k.

The major pieces:

Three Cisco 2501 routers
Two Cisco 2503 routers
One Cisco 2511 router
One Cisco 2514 router
One Cisco 2522 router
One 2620 router
One 2610 router
2x Catalyst 3550
ISDN Simulator

Hey everybody, Thanks for your suggestions.

Is a 2924-XL sufficient for my first switch?
