Someone is selling me 2 of these routers for $150 for both. Just wanted to
know if they were okay for practicing purposes for my CCNA. I understand
that they're just like 2501 with the exception of ISDN port. Any advice is
appreciated, thanks.

What version of the IOS do they have? I would check that first. I used 3
(2501s) and 2 (2521s) to study for my CCNA. Sounds like a fair price as
long as they work.

Here's a link to an overview of the 2500 series routers.

Geez, $150 for both?! Great deal! Where are you buying them
from?

Yeah, sure, they're good for CCNA practice.

The 2503s can certainly be helpful for IOS command line practice and very
basic interconnectivity to get you up to speed for CCNA (you usually need a
couple more routers and an ethernet switch to do practice labs though - for
instance it really helps to have a third router to configure as a
frame-relay switch). You would need to invest in an ISDN simulator or
similar device to make use of the ISDN ports (there's no crossover cable
capability there).

You might ask about now much DRAM and flash the units have. Ideally you'ld
like to have them maxed out at 16/16 to load the latest 12.2 IOS revs.
Upgrading the memory on both could run you $60-100 (the bootstrap ROMs on
the motherboard may have to be replaced to handle the increase in memory as
well). It's not hard to do and the parts are readily available, but the
amount of memory already installed does affect the comparative value. If
the seller knows that the units already have 12.1 or 12.2 loaded, the memory
may be in good shape. But you are just as likely to find that they have
something ancient like 10.3 on them. You really want to be able to run a
recent IOS version to practice with.

Other items that could affect comparible value when included/not included
(ethenet transcievers, console cable/adapter, DTE/DCE back-to-back cable,
rack mount ears - items which can run you $10-20ea shipped if you need to
purchase them separately). It also helps if they are tested units as some
units are sold in auctions are occassionally stripped of memory or power
supplies, etc. and sometimes the seller is just not aware or up to speed.
Sometimes individual ports can be bad as well (such as console ports or ISDN
ports that have had something else plugged into them - zzzap).

These are some things to look out for when making a purchase like this.

Good luck with your pursuits.
