Author failed 640-607

Hi
Took the 607 exam today and failed with a score of 809.
used the Cisco Press"Cisco certification guide" with a couple of routers for
revision. Now that I have to take the new exam 801, can anybody tell me what
is the difference in the format of the new exam ,and do I need to purchase
any new reading material.
Is there a better book out there?......Someone told me to try Sybex.

Kind Regards

Ollie Riley

Oliver

Sorry to hear about your experience. It may be no consolation but an 809
shows that you know your stuff but just missed it by 4 or 5 questions.

The guy at www.celticrover.com is in the process of building an 801 prep
site. Bookmark it and keep updated. The guy knows his stuff and you can be
sure that it will provide a lot of resources to help you pass the 801. The
801 has new stuff that the previous track didn't like Variable Length Subnet
masking (VLSM). Try Amazon.com for 801 books. Best of luck.

I passed the 640-801 last Friday and I used the CCNA Certification Library
(CCNA Self-Study, exam #640-801), Sixth Edition by Wendell Odom along with
the included NetSim LE CDs (which
get you a 50% discount on the Boson NetSim V5.12, so I brought that as well
from Boson). The NetSim hands on practice labs were perfect and taught me
exactly what I need to know to ace the frame relay, 2950 VLAN, router, and
switch initial configurations. If I would have done the ISDN labs, I would
have aced those questions as well.

Good Luck

I'm sorry to hear about your score. Just keep at it and you'll emerge
victorious.

The study materials I used are as follows:
1)
My primary study source was Sybex's book by Todd Lammle.
I would very highly recommend it. (I'm not sure about books for the 801
test, but I would be inclined to purchase more books by Lammle)
Lammle, Todd. (2002). Cisco Certified Network Associate
study guide, Third Edition. Sybex. ISBN 0-7821-4167-6

2)
Secondary study source:
Cisco CCNA Exam #640-607 Certification Guide
Cisco Press, Wendell Odom. ISBN 1-58720-055-4

3) Transcender CD for 640-607

4) Home lab
(1) 2501
(1) 2514
(1) Cat 1912
(4) PCs

Good Luck!

Andrew

this probably works to your advantage actually. now you get to learn the
stuff that's really used. namely classless routing.

you need to learn VLSM, OSPF (single area), EIGRP, and some more detailed
switching stuff.

personally, I don't think you did bad failing. now you'll get up to speed
with things that are more useful.

640-607

If I failed the 640-607 this past month can I re-take that test, or do I
have to start all over with the new test series?
