Cisco is not non profit organization You have to pay for it

let me give a little more detail:

as a "bonus" for a job well done (replaced office connection T1 with Cable
connection and reconfigured network w/o router) the customer gave me their
router.....as well as a 1602.

As it had a CSU/DSU wic for the T1 connection, I purchased an 1enet card so
I could use this at home with my cable connection.

Aparently it doesn't have the "drivers" to support the enet wic, and
recognizes it as plugged in......but not Configmaker. CM says the slots are
empty.

hours and hours of scouring cisco's site have brought me to believe I need a
new ios (currently have 12.1) to upload to the routers flash card. A bit
more research and it seems the ios I need is around $900?!?!?!?!?

someone gave me a bin with this name:

c3640-js-mz.121-5.T4

but I'm getting "invalid" and "non executable" nonsense.

the one I show currently on the router is: flash:c1700-y-mz.121-6.bin or
12.1 (6)

aparently I'm not asking correctly or I'm just not inspiring any of you to
respond. Regardless, this has become my own diary.

quote Cisco: If the Cisco WIC-1ENET is used with an IOS image that does not
support it and if the Link LED does not light, an error message appears,
indicating an unrecognized WIC. This does not damage the router or the Cisco
WIC-1ENET card. The error message is "00:00:05: %PQUICC-1-UNKNOWN_WIC:
PQUICC(0), WIC card has an unknown ID of 0xFF."

This is exactly my problem.

quote Cisco: The Cisco WIC-1ENET card requires Cisco IOS Release 12.2(2)XJ
or later if the card is installed in any WIC slot other than slot 0 or if
more than one card is installed.
The card can be used with Cisco IOS Release 12.2(4)T, but the card must be
installed in slot 0 and only one Cisco WIC-1ENET card can be installed in
the router.

With a few hours of learning as well as searching, I discovered the above.
Now I can't seem to find any info on how much these ios' are nor where to
buy them.

Ya know.......I administer a site called overclockers.com. A very friendly
bunch they are......as well as more than willing to help. Some of you
should consider taking lessons from some of those guys. No matter how many
times they're asked "what's a hard drive" there's always someone willing to
take the time to answer the question. It's not like a 2 min response would
kill ya.

www.cdw.com for one. Or any Cisco reseller. IP only images are not
that expensive.

There was no reason to post as you already found the problem. You
needed an IOS upgrade (as you already found out).

purchase an IOS

it turns nothing up under Cisco ios or 12.2(2)XJ

any other suggestions?

This is my first experience with ANY Cisco product, so I'm extremely
uninformed.

Which router do you have? I'll give you the exact part number to search
for.

Are you the person that needed the IOS part number? If so, post the
version of IOS that you need and the router model number. If you're the
person, I missed your followup.

Also, don't snip so much. I can't keep track of all the posts.

I do need an IOS or part number indeed. From what I get from the cisco site,
this is what I need:

WIC-1ENET Module
The Cisco WIC-1ENET is a single-port Ethernet interface card supporting
10BASE-T Ethernet. The card provides the Cisco 1700 series router with
additional Ethernet interfaces.

The Cisco WIC-1ENET card is only supported on the Cisco 1700 series routers
and requires Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(2)XJ or later if the card is
installed in any WIC slot other than slot 0, or if more than one card is
installed. The card can be used with Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(4)T,
but the card must be installed in slot 0, and only one Cisco WIC-1ENET card
can be installed in the router.

as I want to use 2 enet cards (cable connection with dsl backup) I assume
I'll need 12.2(2)XJ.

Thanks for your time!
