| Gentlefolk of the NG,
I'm just starting out, and for my birthday, my wife is graciously buying for
me one piece of lab equipment (3 -400 USD) for my lab. This will be the
first piece of equipment I pick up for this lab, which I intend to add to
over the next few years. Based on the advice I've found here, I'm looking
into Cisco 2501 routers, and 1924 switches. Here's my question:
Since there will only be one piece of equipment, does it make *any* sense
for me to pick up a router? Should I instead pick up a switch, which I can
deploy and configure on my local home LAN? Can one configure a single
router, by itself, or does one need to have either another router, or a
simulator of some sort, along with it?
I am, of course, anxious to begin this adventure. Swift answers are
appreciated, greatly. Slow answers will be appreciated at a later date.
TIA
Seth C
