Author Passed 640-607

Passed the 640-607, and I am quite proud of my 961.

Not so proud of my previous 847 (failed by 2 points...that really
stung) and 834.

I have two basic peices of advice.

Firstly, on the day of the exam, don't touch a Cisco book. Or your
notes. Or even your computer. Go out, have a nice lunch. (This assumes
you are not working of course.) Basic point is, don't study on the day
of the exam. If you feel the need to study right up to the exam time,
you are not ready for it.

Secondly, when in the exam room, take off your shoes. Seriously. You
are probably feeling stressed and worried. The feeling of sitting in a
office enviroment with no shoes on sounds absurd, and it is. But thats
just the point. It is hard to take something seriously in a situation
like that, and hard to be stressed when you are not taking something
seriously.

And study. Study lots. The CCNA isn't really that deep an exam, but it
sure is wide. It covers a lot of subjects, but the testing method
means it won't cover anything in too great a depth. Better to be know
most things about everything rather than everything about somethings.

Lee,

Congratulations. I passed the exam on 7/19.

I agree with you observations. I didn't take my shoes off but I think that
maybe would have helped. I was really nervous. And study - a lot!!!. I read
the first and second year books, Todd Lammle and Wendell Odem's exam prep
books multiple times, did all the written and hands-on excercises and took a
boat load of practice tests.

Good observation about the shoes. When I wrote my ccna 3 yrs ago, I was so
nervous that when I walked into the exam room, I decided to sit down and
simply regurgitate what I did know on the paper that was provided. I laid
out the whole 2^0 - 2^7 binary-to-decimal conversion table on the paper.
Man, was that ever a smart move. I carved a good 15-20 minutes off of my
time just by quickly looking up the correct math answers for some of the
questions. After about 10 minutes of writing out this material, I started
the exam. I was relaxed and I passed. Don't remember my score but I remember
it was around 90%. Not bad on my 1st attempt.

The whole point is that the exam doesn't start once you walk into the
examination room. It starts when you say so it does. So make sure you're
relaxed and ready and just enjoy yourself writing it.
