| Has anyone passed IDS ??
I can't get the hands on for this test and bought the IDS Cisco press book.
I have a PIX and IOS FW router but only thing I can't get hold of.
Is it possible to pass using the Cisco Press book.?
This test is dragging me back getting the Security cert, as the others were
very straightforward to pass.

| If you understand the fundamentals of IDS and have the ability to memorize
all the "point and click here" questions about CSPM then you can probably
pass. I don't recommend Cisco's IDS product because I think CSPM is not
ready. So, I don't know much about the IDS sensor or CSPM and I passed by
reading a part of the book in a single night. The only difficult part is
memorizing how CSPM is organized. It's a senseless exam IMO.

| I am on the same boat as dum de dum dum (I like that name). After reading
the Ciscopress book I get the feeling that I need to remember all the "poin
and click" to pass the test. If this is what takes to get the security
certification, fine, but I will probably forget about it as soon as I pass
the test.
Just want to mention that if you have a CCO login you can download the
90-day evaluation version of CSPM, not sure about the CSIDS Director tho.

Is the security test going to change any time soon? I am thinking of buying
the books (MCNS, VPN, IDS, PIX) but may not take the tests for up to a year,
our the books going to be out of date by then?
If so, how much out of date do you think they would be? For instance, the 507
is minorly out of date compared to the 607, but I would say the 407 (books) are
significantly out of date compared to the 507.

| I don't know of any planned changes. The CSS1 is relatively new so I
wouldn't anticipate a major revision in the next 12 months.

| Dont bother going and doing/buying the CSIDS v2.1 book/course.
Not only does is teach you nothing about IDS and its internal
architecture, but it also is being replace by v3.0 in the not to distant
future because of this weakness.
Unix director ins't covered in the course either and I found myself
falling asleep through CSPM.

| You can download a demo version of CSPM from Cisco's web site if you have
CCO access. I would at least go through the install and look at it.

| If you are into it, there is a simulation for IDS on the PEC site from
cisco that is free
