I have two 3102 with a serial (V2) and ethernet (AUI). I use them as backbones
to my home network. I am using a 2500 series IOS. I use the ethernet port to
connect to the network. When you using a 2500 series IOS you can use most of
the commands (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP. and more). Yes they go for $70. If you planning
to use the serial port to connect to another device then you will need the
appropriate cable to connect the V2 to another serial.
