Re: Cisco 25XX for router Lab?
|
|
|
| It's a valid question. I've been looking for hours now trying to find
out exactly what a 5 in 1 is. I still don't know. At Cisco's site all
the stuff that comes up is garbage. I did a search on the entire site
and got 13 matches. The first ten had only this to say on the 5in1:
Port Adapter, 4-Port Serial,5in1
Oh, it said it many times, but not much else Then there was the last
three results:
Cross-Platform Release Notes for Cisco IOS Release 12.1,
Part 2: Platform-Specific Information
But that's it, nothing else on the page.
I've been to ebay, where I've seen a picture, but it just has a serial
port. It has to be more than a serial port or it wouldn't be called a
5in1. Here's the entire text of one post:
****This is a great card for owners of 2500 series modular routers.
With this card you can add a serial port to 2524 and 2525 routers
expanding their abilities. This makes a great extra card and port for
those labs when you just need one more port, or if you want to change
the configuration of your router without spending alot of money.
Nearly as easy to install as a PCMCIA card in your laptop. Not using
that 56K module anymore? Finished with ISDN on that router? This card
is for you!****
So great, it expands their abilities. To do what?
So if anyone would like to help some newbies, I'd thank you. What's a
5in1?

| There you go:
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td...4/boa/index.htm
Note The five-in-one synchronous serial WAN module gets its name from
the five types of signaling it supports: EIA/TIA-232, EIA/TIA-449,
V.35, X.21, and EIA-530. You can order from Cisco Systems a DB-60
shielded serial transition cable. The router end of the shielded
serial transition cable has a DB-60 connector; the other end of the
cable has the appropriate connector for the standard interface you
specify.
